Saladette FAQs

What is a saladette?

A saladette is a refrigerated prep counter with a row of chilled gastronorm wells along the top for holding toppings and fillings. It keeps ingredients cold and within easy reach during service, with a fridge underneath for extra stock. It suits salad, sandwich, and pizza prep.

What is the difference between a saladette and a standard prep fridge?

A saladette has open or lidded gastronorm wells on top for quick access to chilled toppings, plus a worktop for assembly. A standard prep fridge is an enclosed undercounter cabinet without the topping wells. Saladettes are built for fast made-to-order service.

What temperature should a saladette run at?

To meet UK food safety rules, chilled food should be held at 8°C or below, with most kitchens aiming for 1°C to 5°C. A good saladette keeps both the wells and the cabinet below in this range. Keep lids on the wells during quiet periods to hold temperature.

Do saladettes come with gastronorm pans?

Many include a set of gastronorm pans for the wells, but not all. H2 product pages state clearly what is supplied. Where pans are not included, standard GN 1/3, 1/6, and 1/9 pans fit the wells and are available separately in various depths.

What size saladette do I need?

Saladettes are sized by the number of doors below and the number of gastronorm wells on top. A 2-door unit suits most cafés and sandwich bars. Larger 3-door models suit busy pizzerias and high-volume prep. Match the well count to the toppings you offer.

What foods is a saladette used for?

Saladettes are ideal for salad leaves, chopped toppings, sandwich fillings, pizza toppings, and garnishes. The chilled wells keep everything food-safe and to hand, while the worktop and undercounter fridge give space to assemble and store backup stock.
