Stainless Steel Work Table FAQs
What grade of stainless steel are commercial work tables made from?
Most commercial work tables use either 430 or 304 grade stainless steel. 304 is more corrosion resistant and the better choice for wet or food prep areas. 430 is more affordable and fine for dry storage and general use. H2 product pages list the grade for each table.
What is an upstand on a stainless steel table?
An upstand is a raised lip along the back edge of the table top. It stops spills, liquids, and food debris falling down the gap behind the table, which protects the wall and makes cleaning easier. Tables come with or without an upstand depending on where they sit.
What size work table do I need?
Allow at least 60cm of bench width per person working. Small kitchens manage with a 60 to 90cm table, mid-size kitchens use 120 to 150cm, and larger operations run 180cm or longer. Standard depth is 60 to 70cm and standard height is around 90cm.
Do commercial work tables come with an undershelf?
Most do. An undershelf doubles your storage and is ideal for holding gastronorm pans, mixing bowls, and small equipment. Some H2 tables have two tiers or a void underneath to slot in undercounter fridges. Check the product spec for the shelf configuration.
How much weight can a stainless steel work table hold?
A well-built commercial table with 304 or 430 steel and reinforced legs typically supports 100 to 200kg spread evenly across the top. Heavy-duty fabricated tables hold more. If you plan to stand mixers or heavy equipment on the table, check the rated load first.
How do you clean and maintain a stainless steel work table?
Wipe down daily with warm soapy water or a mild detergent, then dry with a soft cloth to prevent water marks. Avoid bleach, abrasive pads, and steel wool, which scratch and corrode the surface. Cleaning along the grain keeps the finish looking new.
