Commercial Sink FAQs
How many bowls do I need on a commercial sink?
A single bowl suits small sites and light pot washing. A double bowl lets you wash in one and rinse in the other, which is the standard for most kitchens. Busy operations use double bowls with drainers each side. Match the bowl count to your washing volume.
Do I legally need a separate hand wash sink?
Yes. UK food hygiene regulations require a dedicated hand wash basin that is separate from sinks used for food or equipment washing. It must have hot and cold water, soap, and a hygienic way to dry hands. H2 stocks compact hand wash basins for this purpose.
What size sink bowl do I need for a commercial kitchen?
Bowls need to be deep and wide enough to fit your largest pots and gastronorm trays. A common commercial bowl is around 40 to 50cm wide and 30cm deep. For pot wash areas handling large stockpots, choose a deep bowl of 40cm or more.
Left or right hand drainer on a commercial sink?
The drainer should sit on the side where dishes naturally flow as you work. Right-handed staff often prefer a left-hand drainer so they wash to the right. Many H2 sinks come with double drainers so the orientation suits any layout.
What grade of stainless steel are commercial sinks made from?
Commercial sinks are usually made from 304 grade stainless steel because it resists corrosion from constant water and detergent. The grade matters most in wet areas, so 304 is the standard for sinks even where 430 is used for dry tables.
Do commercial sinks come with taps and waste fittings?
Some include taps and waste kits, others do not. H2 product pages state clearly what is supplied. Where taps are not included, commercial monobloc or lever taps and a standard waste kit are available separately to complete the installation.
